Tucked just below the compact Miyashita Park Skatepark and only a few pushes from the iconic Scramble Crossing is the Instant Skateboard Shop in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Instant has been a cornerstone of Japan’s skate scene since 1995, so they know what skaters need and there’s a great range of street and park hardware, accessories and skate apparel.
Note that there’s almost absolutely no gear for surfskates, longboards, cruisers or LDP, it’s all strictly shortboards. They do have plenty of standard hardware: nuts, bolts, risers and bushings, etc.
The shop’s known locally for its chill, beginner-friendly vibe and although English language skills are limited, the staff are very welcoming anyway and will make the effort, so it’s a good spot to soak up Tokyo’s skate culture and check out the nearby skatepark.
